Treats and Traumas

Hi guys! A little late night check in from me as I have been round the shops yet again and have not seen anything that I wanted to part with my cash for! What is going on?! I'm currently on a bottoms ban (aka no trousers, skirts, leggings, etc) as I have so many that I still love, but I could do with some knitwear as more of a 'priority'. I'd love a burgundy jumper but haven't seen the winner yet!

I'm still waiting to use someone's student discount on the soft River Island creepers but have bought a bunch of Topshop socks in preparation! I love the frillies and seriously love these the thick fold-over detail on the right pair. I'll be washing these in bleach so they stay the brightest white!

I also realised I had a decent amount of Boots points and tried to re-buy my favourite contour/bronzer colour, Brickie by 17. I got this probably two years ago and now they seem to have discontinued it, nooooo!! No signs on eBay or the'net either. Why didn't I stock up on this £3.50 beauty?! I did wonder if they had changed the name and it was now the rather similar shade Nude but alas they are not identical. Nude is still pretty though and shall get hopefully as much use as it's older sister.

Recent pre-autumn buys

Here are a few things I've bought in the past couple of weeks - not a huge amount but each has a special place in my wardrobe heart! I can't wait until next week for pay day to hopefully see if I can buy maybe a new clothing treat - I'm hankering after a gorgeous jumper!

I've mentioned this before but I had my eye on this River Island rucksack for a while but was waiting for any more to pop up. New Look do have a slightly similar and slightly cheaper one but I really like the square flap and front pocket on this and the leather straps. However the drawstring is a piece of rope which looks cool but you have to tie it physically in a knot each time you close the bag, so it's not great if you're paying for something quickly or trying to grab your phone! Also there are no zipped inside pockets so finding anything is a bit of a 'mare. Things get very lost at the bottom!

I'm going to take up the Topshop 3-pairs-for-£8 deal on socks as they have by far the best high-street socks and I'm a bit obsessed with them in ankle boots, creepers or with flats, worn over plain black tights. Cosy, practical and cute - win!

This is the MUA £1 lip pencil my sister recommended - it comes out as a matte rich red/plum colour so very on trend for gothic berry lips this season. It stays put all day too and is much less smudge-friendly than lipstick. And there's  sharpener in the lid! What an ultimate bargain.

I also have a couple of things from some new cross items we have at Motel, and thank you to everyone who helped me decide which dress to wear out on Friday! I put the options out on Twitter because I have no girly opinions in the house I live in now and just couldn't decide. In the end I went with the dress that fitted the best, which I think is a good rule of thumb as you will always look your best if you have the right underwear for what you are wearing and if it fits well. I wore the Zena Dress which yes I already own the same shape in now around 9 different prints and colours! The neckline is seriously flattering so I know they'll just work. Also the Zenas are now a little longer and thicker than your average Motel dress, yay!

Cropz and Shortz

Hi babydolls! Ooh I am very inspired at the moment, veeery inspired! I can think of around a thousand blog posts I want to write so I shall; sorry for spamming your feeds!

I wore my Motel Diana off shoulder top for the first time this week and felt rather '90s! It has suddenly got really chilly but I braved my trusty H&M denim shorts with tights and added my H&M dream catcher necklace to keep it grungy. I just sold my creepers on eBay as they were still far too big and very heavy, but I saw a girl wearing some a few weeks ago with black tights and bright white ankle socks and the look has stuck with me! I've been trekking the shops and by far the nicest high-street creepers I've found are these below from River Island, with a soft sole rather than pleated sole. They are only £35 so I'm trying to get any student friends to visit the shop with me to use the 20% off discount in this month's Company magazine! I also need to stock up on frilly white socks and these thick, fold-over socks from Topshop - their sock department is one of the only reasons I go in! New Look have cheap creepers but they didn't have my size, sob!

My sister works at Superdrug and she told me about a 99p MUA lip pencil in a deep plum colour which I snapped up on the weekend - really should have worn it with this outfit! I think I am starting a new obsession with lip pencils as they are much less maintenance than a lipstick and much cheaper! I always find lipsticks never look like the colour you think they will so it's a gamble each time. Here is my perfect outfit if I was a rich girl, na na na na na.... I'm lusting after great value bracelets and cheap and cheerful hoops to supplement all my existing clobber.

To Be Continued...

Now I've done some funny things in my time in the name of DIY but not for a good few years. Some how tonight though I've found myself with black fingers, floors, and walls thanks to a strange quest to dye my shoes!

This all started because a) I can't seem to find a pair of nice heels anywhere without a stiletto heel and b) I don't want to be spending lots of money right now. I have these grey Miss Selfridge shoes which are very chunky and comfy, and have these amazing giant bows and a pink lining. However they are definitely worn now and the fabric was very marked and dirty beyond repair. Never fear though, I have decided to make them black!

I first tried shoe polish but that wasn't dark enough, and I was going to paint them with fabric paint but Wilkinsons only had packet dye. Well at £2.99 you can't go wrong, so I ignored the instructions and skipped the gloves, and chose basically the largest yet smallest bowl I could find! I am turning the shoes around every few minutes so they are evenly covered and they are looking pretty good despite there being huge puddles of dye inside each shoe. Progress TBC... let's hope I can wear them on Friday night!

NAILS OF THE WEEK 20

I have a new obsession with white nails. I think I have gone through the entire rainbow of nail colours and now I am back to white - and I can't think of anything else I'd rather have! Literally no other colour appeals to me. Have you been liking any colours for autumn?

At first I thought stark white may look like tippex but when you pay enough money at the nail salon to get truly perfect nails (expensive habit!), you might as well choose a colour that really shows that off. I expect white is a hard colour to get right if you paint your own nails but on gels/acrylics they look great, even if they are nail destroyers! The nail person may be confused that you want white nails, not white tips though - the lady doing mine said 'White...... really?' when I said it, haha!

The white really sets off any jewellery and gives an eye-catching flash of nails without being a bright, in-your-face colour. I love the white with pastels and have been wearing this Topshop ring I got years ago in a Freedom sale and constantly wearing these cute Miss Selfridge heart knuckle/midi rings too! The heart actually fell off one so I wear that plain now, but I am on a huge jewellery kick at the moment and want some more knuckle rings. I think it's because I'm trying hard not to spend a lot on clothes so maybe jewellery can update my wardrobe a little. Here's hoping!

Cuff It

My camera charger STILL isn't here!! I'm hoping it will arrive this week so I can take some photos and make videos; I've rearranged my shoebox room so now it is more of a cupboard and I have photo space, woo!

So right now I'm thinking about all the things I'm lusting after rather than things I can show you, and right now I'm thinking of cuffs. When I'm scrolling through Tumblr, my eye instantly goes to wrists and arms, and I'm really after a beautiful cuff. Ideally it would sit up a little higher than your wrist and at first may look like a few bracelets. The first few are rather out of my price range like the clothing at Avenue 32 but I love the black stones in the first cuff, and idealy I'd like the slim central line of the second. Alternatives are the simple ASOS banded or Mango clustered ones but they might not make enough of a statement, so I'm thinking about mixing in a cross like the plain Rock n Rose bracelet or ASOS link bracelet. I'm not sure if I'm bored of crosses and the whole soft goth trend as what else are we going to wear all winter if we tire of studs?!

Obsessed with: Off shoulder

I am wholeheartedly obsessed with off the shoulder things right now, partially because you cannot find them anywhere! I'm hoping a shop will come out with a range of different coloured tops in a basics range like most stores did with simple crop tops this summer. The off shoulder crop tops and dresses are finally at Motel Rocks and I have got my mitts on four different things... well, slightly different! The dresses are actually slightly longer now (hurrah!) so I'm hoping to wear the long sleeved Deborah Dress this weekend, although I wish I had some new shoes to go with it!

I also have the Diana and Debbie tops as I never really spend very much on fancy tops as you can't seem to get the wear out of them. The last time I did was a studded crop top from Topshop where all the studs fell off! I don't think Motel can be too expensive as there are always discount codes around and of course treats on the Facebook page! Also it's a great time to get some mates rates if you know any students and can borrow their student cards; I saw 20% off River Island in this month's Company mag!

And I have the really cute Debbie floral dress which I could wear for day with maybe a hat and ankle boots after I've worn it out a few times. If you find the shoulders quite tight of the tops you can just pull the stitching once and then they are very comfortable, and a great alternative so any neckline. My next neckline quest is high/roll neck tops - look out, I'm thinking of investing in a Zabby Dress!

I Want It Now: Topshop Show Offs

Oh holey moley, I love these shoes!!! I saw them on the Topshop website at the beginning of August and dubbed them as THE pay day purchase. I was biding my time as was very excited for a pay day shopping spree in Merry Hill in the Midlands - the kind of shopping trip where you really want to find something you LOVE and will let yourself get anything. Well I did not realise that nowadays Merry Hill is actually a rather small shopping centre and I saw nothing I loved, BUT I did find The Shoes. Yay!

Sadly the shoes were on the dreaded 'Last Chance To Buy' shelf and both were a size 4, as apparently they were just pairs returned to the store. Gutted! The nude pair are just beautiful, in more of a creamy colour rather than a pink colour, but if I did purchase them it would have to be the black so they wouldn't look dirty easily. They are extremely high but I've had a life-long love affair with Mary Janes and could wear these all season until they broke. As long as a shoe is really high, they will be fierce even if they are girly.

Alas I have not since had funds to purchase them, especially as I'm not hitting the town each week like a student, but I will keep my eye on them in case I have a sudden windfall.

LONDON FASHION WEEK DAY 1 (AND ONLY!)

Happy Saturday y'all! I've had the daytime free today and have ran all my errands, donated a bunch of things to charity, food shopped, had my nails done, and now I'm sat with a face mask on! Very different to yesterday when myself and all the Motel girls were at London Fashion Week!

As our office for the Motel Rocks website (which has had an incredibleee makeover!) is in Bristol, we only went up to London for one day to get as much coverage as possible, and along with fellow office babes Lora, Sophie and Fran, there was a host of street teamers wearing Motel and style snapping too! I always recruit a big team so we have a little Motel army everywhere at Somerset House ready to capture everything!

We plan things MONTHS in advance at work (Christmas is under way already!) and so I've been thinking towards fashion week for ages, but only decided on my outfit the night before. As the Motel warehouse is in the Midlands, we excitedly order our favourites that we want to buy in the post too so I got a few things sent and settled on this matching crop top and skirt! The Carie Crop has straps that cross at the back so it's quite a unique shape from the from, and Kadie Skirts are super flattering circle skirts - I have the black too and there's a really cute one with stud crosses on!

I am a lover of crop tops and skirts, especially with Litas/any lace up boots, but I think I did subconsciously get this outfit idea because Tulisa wore it on an Alan Carr show! She's been wearing a tonne of Motel recently, but I love the New World print anyway as it mixes the cool lilac pastels with warmer orange and yellow. I borrowed this outfit as samples but I might keep it!

I also wore my new River Island leopard rucksack to clash prints - I got it as my pay day treat as I've been using my faux leather Topshop one for about 6 months! I of course wore my Litas too for comfort and I put on the H&M hat throughout the day as it got so sunny!

The first day always starts off quite calmly and I'd say this year there were fewer extreme outfits where people might showcase an insane hat of their own design or crazy shoes. There seemed to be a lot of random people who may have just stumbled across Somerset House and came in to have a look (including the best looking homeless guy we've ever seen who started talking to us), but of course there were also the masses of photographers, show go-ers and general fashionable people.

We were on high alert for celebrity spots as I managed to meet (and lurk all over) Pixie Lott last season, and we soon spotted Jameela Jamil! She was tied up by a random film crew and there was almost a little queue of people waiting to talk to her, but she said she loved my outfit and loved Motel - her first TV outfit was Motel apparently! Then we had a photo and I said 'see you soon!' haha no idea why, I was a bit star struck?! We also nearly got mowed down by the paparazzi stampede following Kelly Brooke; it was almost dangerous!

I also hung out with great bloggers Lily, Stella, Camille, Laura, Dina, Natalie, Rosie (are there any bloggers I haven't met yet?!), and a special shout out to Anouska (and her bf photographer!) who it was amazing to finally meet - one of the best bloggers to work with and such a friendly, humble girl!!

And here are a few little snaps of the day! I'd tell anyone to just get dressed up, go down and see who you meet and who you spot! It's also a great opportunity to hopefully get some professional photos of yourself, especially if like me you are not talented at taking good blog photos! Just make sure you ask for the details or a card of everyone who snaps you. I wish we were there for more days but it was hard enough to decide on one outfit!

I Want It Now: ASOS Cartoon Suits

Ohhh emmm geeee OK, so, apologies for the girly start but who remembers Veruca Salt? Of course you know the film, but cast your mind waaaay back to about 2008 (yes, my blog is an oldie!) when I used to post about something I was 'wanting right now' by using Veruca. Well I feel it's time to bring her back because at the moment I cannot afford anything, yet I want everything! If any of you remember when I used to blog Veruca, I'd love to know!

Yes my friends, it is a sad time where I really want to start digging myself out of any student debt, and even though that will take years, the motto is to 'get better and not worse'. I've reached a point where I scrimp on food, travel, makeup, basically everything and now clothes are taking the hit. I still buy clothes and get the odd Motel treat, but I don't want to be spending and spending. I figure I can get just as much joy as posting (hmmm) so from now on I am sharing all my lustings on here and only purchasing where absolutely necessary! Sounds like a plan.

Some things I have had open in my tabs for about two weeks are these AHmazing jogger and sweatshirt sets from ASOS in Disney and Barbie prints! Of course it's the Barbie one I want in all it's amazing '90s wonderness - what fun I'd have in this! I have no idea when I would wear it but it would definitely be a weekend and it would definitely be a time to party!

When my sister and I were younger, we had loads of Barbies and I remember on had chopped off, wonky hair due to a hair bobble tangle incident, and for some reason we dubbed her Rudie Nudie Barbie and she was always naked! And as our posh American Barbies were doing Barbie things like dressing Shelley or changing velcro outfits in their plastic houses, Rudie Nudie would come knocking on the door all naked and crazy and be like 'Heeeey I'm Rudie Nudie!', and all the other Barbies would scream and shun her, hahahahahha! I've probably proved I'm insane but hey, I hope it made you smile :)
